PLANET B

Planet B came into existence as an urge to be able to more directly communicate philosophical and political ideas through my music. I had collected a variety of inspiring audio and video clips of interesting personalities for a while and the idea was to incorporate these into the music. I wanted to show and share my inspirations and help them to create a postive debate about our future on this planet. Both live and in the studio the clips are used as part of the improvising so one thing can feed the other. I’d say this band mixes my love of total free music with more detailed rhythmic playing, it’s constructed as to always be right in the moment.

FELLOW CREATURES

The idea of this band had been awhile coming. At the time Phronesis had merged in to a democratic group and as a result I was keen to create something new, exploring a different sound. The project is inspired by Naomi Kleins book, ‘This Changes Everything’ which in a sense is about climate change. It discusses the connection between all living species and our planet in a beautiful and profound way all the while laying down the facts about the damages that Capitalism causes our enviroment. Lots of the titles on the record are directly inspired by Naomi’s phrases including the album title Fellow Creatures.

ALIVE

Before this album I remember still feeling like the music I had recorded so far didn’t fully portray the potential of how the band felt live. I thought if I could just somehow make a record that encapsulated all the raw energy, improvising and interaction then everyone would get it. Through different circumstances I ended up asking Mark Guiliana to do the record and ALIVE became the album pushing the band even further internationally. Also, this was my first record with Edition Records as a leader.

WALKING DARK

This record is dedicated to my older sister Jeanette who, during just one summer lost her sight completely. After this I relocated from London to Denmark to help our family adjust to this new bleak situation. Sue came up with the idea of playing some concerts in Pitch Black darkness and we developed the idea and took it to several venues across the UK as well as doing a Pitch Black tour in Belgium. As the first Phronesis album this release includes a mixture of compositions from the other band members.

GREEN DELAY

The difficult follow up second release. This was recorded in Bornholm, a small Danish island just south of Sweden. We just managed to wrap everything up before starting an epic journey back to Denmark and then onwards to the UK by car. Anyway that’s a longer story.. This album also made its way to the ears of our future band manager Sue Edwards. She heard Blue Inspiration on Myspace and wrote to me and told me to send her some cd’s (yes back in the day) so she could get me some US radio play. I legged it to the postoffice and it all came true!

ORGANIC WARFARE

First Phronesis debut album that I crowdfunded just around my 30th birthday with help from my family and friends. This record was also recorded, mixed and mastered by August Wanngren who has been involved in all my original projects since. Organic Warfare landed on the top ten jazz albums on Itunes in the States and stayed there for three months! I think that help spread the word and pave the way for some of the hype that the band enjoyed later on. Still super proud of this record.
